Overview

Rajbiraj is one of the first cities of Nepal to be urban planned, and the preservations of old stone samples that date back to the 8th century portray Rajbiraj to have an old and rich history. To get a hint of the cultural richness here, the Chinnamata Bhagwati temple is a perfect way even though it is located about 10 km away from Rajbiraj. It is a famous temple in Eastern Nepal and a Shakti Peetha.

Upon a drive to Hanumannagar, you will visit the world’s only one black child Hanuman. During the establishment of a village in Bhardaha, the locals found a statue of Durga while digging there. Since the Koshi barrage is home to Siberian birds, Gangetic dolphins, and other different species of freshwater fishes, a drive to the river can be a great way to witness these species enjoying the sunset and also to feast on a variety of fishes.

This temple is said to be built by a King whose name was Nanyadeva when he found the statue of Goddess Bhagwati while he was clearing the forest. The main attraction remains to be the headless deity of Goddess Chinnamasta which stands on the body of Kamadeva and Rati on the lotus bed.  After stepping inside the temple, we can notice the statue of Goddess Sakhada Devi with the dead devil underneath her foot. The temple is popular for its Tantrik style architectural design.

Apart from the main temple, there are other temples as well of the Sun God, Hanuman, and Lord Shiva. The temple is surrounded by three types of Koshi River, two types of Tri-yuga River, and two types of rapid River. The nearby Rajdevi temple holds great historical, cultural, and religious significance as the statue of the deity Rajdevi was found 1000 years ago. This temple is also the family temple of King Janak.
