Bardiya is a district in the lowlands of Terai in Lumbini Province of Nepal. In Bardiya around 368 km area was set aside as Royal Hunting Reserve in 1969 and gazetted as Royal Karnali Wildlife Reserve in 1976. In 1982, it was proclaimed as Royal Bardiya Wildlife Reserve and extended to include the Babai River Valley in 1984. Finally, in 1988, the protected area was gazetted as a national park. It has the largest National Park of Terai called the Bardiya National Park. It lies in an area of 968 sq. km. Together with Banke National Park, the coherent protected area of 1,437 km2 (555 sq. mi) represents the Tiger Conservation Unit (TCU) Bardiya-Banke that extends over 2,231 km2 (861 sq. mi) of alluvial grasslands and subtropical moist deciduous forests.

Bardiya National Park lies in the mid-western region of Nepal and has come to be the largest National Park in the Terai region of Nepal. It was conserved as a wildlife reserve for the Tigers and the ecology of the place. It is home to one-horned Rhinoceros transited from Chitwan National Park. It also houses endangered species of animals like Bengal Tiger, wild elephants, swamp deer, blackbuck, gharial, marsh mugger, crocodiles and Gangetic dolphin.

In this park 30 different mammals, 513 species of birds and several species of snakes, lizards and fishes have also been recorded. Many migratory birds also visit the Park seasonally. Birds like Bengal florican, white-rumped vulture, peafowl, and bar-headed geese are symbolic of the Park.

Your tour in the forests of Bardiya will be a splendid adventure with the whispers of the jungle. The park has different activities like Bird Watching, Butterfly Watching and Jungle Safari, Visit the Karnali-Chisapani Bridge, Visit the Tharu Cultural Museum, Visit the Crocodile Breeding Center, Enjoy the walks and bicycling in Bardiya and Fishing at the Karnali-Babai Rivers.

Bardiya has dry weather with warmer days and pleasant nights from October through early April. The temperature reaches 40 degrees Celsius in the summer, especially in May, when the weather becomes hot and humid. Then the monsoon weather starts wherein the average annual rainfall is above 1900mm with fluctuating pattern

White river rafting in the Karnali River can be a fantastic trip. Rafting in the picturesque scene with beautiful mountains in the backdrop will be the most memorable experience.
